Dr. Sawyer is Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of History at the American University of Paris, where he teaches political and urban history and the history of political thought. His research interests lie in the history of democracy and the modern state. He has edited and co-edited numerous volumes and written over 60 articles and reviews in six countries.
Stephen has also received numerous fellowships and grants in France and the United States, including from the Fullbright Foundation, Sciences-Po Paris, EHESS-Paris, ENS-Ulm, the city of Paris and the University of Chicago Neubauer Collegium. He currently serves as associate editor of Annales. Histoire, Sciences Sociales and as head of publications for The Tocqueville Review.
