2015
At the 113th Executive Committee (EC) meeting in Helsinki from 13-14 December 2013, the EC approved the proposed co-ownership of World Political Science (WPS), published by De Gruyter. From 2015 to 2019, WPS published translations of prize-winning articles nominated by prominent national and regional political science associations and journals around the world. The journal gathered and translated an ever-increasing number of many countries' best political science articles, bridging the language barriers that had until then made this cutting-edge research inaccessible.
Articles in the WPS covered a wide range of subjects of interest to readers concerned with the systematic analysis of political issues faced by national, sub-national and international governments and societies. These fields include comparative politics, international relations, political sociology, political theory, political economy, and public administration and policy.
After many successful years of partnership with De Gruyter, the Executive Committee decided not to renew the publication of the WPS journal from 2020 onwards. Despite the popularity of the journal in some regions, the WPS project encountered several impediments and challenges that could not justify its continuation.
The termination of WPS marked the end of a significant initiative that brought together international perspectives and facilitated cross-cultural exchange in the field of political science. Despite its closure, the journal's legacy remains a testament to the importance of transcending language barriers and fostering a more inclusive, global dialogue within the realm of political research.
All WPS issues remain online on De Gruyter’s website as a reference point for researchers.
