The Founding of a Politics Department - Politics at the University of Warwick

This booklet traces the development of the politics department at a 'new' British university, the University of Warwick, in the period from 1965 to 1979. It has now become one of the leading departments in the UK. Particular attention is paid to the development of the curriculum as that reflected understandings of the subject. International studies was initially developed in a separate department. Research was very much seen as an autonomous individual activity with staff deciding what they did, how they did it, and when they did it. Typical of the period, the department was predominantly white and male and gender related issues are discussed. Copies are available free of charge from w.p.grant@warwick.ac.uk
