Job Description

The University of Zurich invites applications for an assistant professorship with tenure track in sociology of societal digitalization starting on 1 February 2026.

Candidates will be expected to investigate central processes of digitalization in contemporary society in their various forms, both empirically and theoretically. Research experience on digitalization processes in different areas of society (e.g. technology, economy, life course, social norms, religion, ecology, art) is desirable. Within this specialization, we expect excellent research with an international impact. Candidates must have experience in quantitative methods and research, and additional expertise in qualitative methods would be an asset. In teaching, they are expected to cover the subject of digitalization in society, and their involvement in methods training is planned. In addition to providing innovative research impulses for their field, candidates must be willing to engage in cross-disciplinary networked research and teaching, especially in the context of the Digital Society Initiative of the University of Zurich.

Candidates must hold a PhD degree in sociology (or a related subject) at the time of application and have an excellent record of academic achievements in the relevant field. Teaching may be carried out in English. Non-German-speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German within the first three years of their appointment.
