Job Description

The Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the University of Deusto is seeking a motivated and highly qualified Postdoctoral Researcher to join the project Re-shaping Attitudes about Refugees and Gender Minorities in Spain and Portugal. This project explores how negative public opinion and social attitudes can be transformed using cutting-edge quantitative methods, particularly survey experiments. The postdoctoral researcher will assist the PI in devising and testing alternative human-rights-based narratives about refugees and gender minorities to counter hate speech and marginalising far-right narratives that target these vulnerable/disadvantaged groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Principal Investigator in preparing the survey questionnaire and the treatment arms for the survey experiment;
  • Develop and oversee the design of the survey platform (e.g., Qualtrics);
  • Collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator and project team to achieve research objectives;
  • Manage data collection, cleaning, and analysis of survey data, ensuring compliance with ethical standards;
  • Contribute to academic publications and project dissemination activities;
  • Engage with stakeholders and contribute to workshops or conferences related to the project.

Offer:

    A gross salary of 34,554€ for the 2024-2025 academic year;
    Contract duration: 16 months, with the possibility of a 2-month extension based on project needs;
    Location: University of Deusto, Bilbao, Spain.

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology or a closely related field (must be obtained by the application deadline; the CV should indicate the date of PhD award);
  • Demonstrated expertise in working with quantitative research methods in the social sciences, evidenced by publications and participation in research projects;
  • Demonstrated experience working with survey experiments and familiarity with tools such as Qualtrics, R, or Stata.

Application Deadline: 28 March 2025 (17.30 CET).
