The Professorship for Global Health and the Professorship for Global Security & Technology are looking for a Research Associate (m/f/d) to support teaching and research activities in the area of individual and collective violence.

The Professorship for Global Health considers disease and health from a social science perspective, with a particular focus on countries of the Global South. Topics include the interplay of poverty and disease, impact evaluation of interventions to promote health and reduce poverty, and aspects of gender inequality.

The Professorship for Global Security & Technology is concerned with political mobilisation and violence, with a particular focus on the role of information and communication technologies in this context. Topics include the spatial and temporal spread of protests, the influence of state censorship on political attitudes or the strategic use of violence during elections in countries of the Global South.

Your responsibilities:

  • Collaborating in research and teaching at the Professorship for Global Health and the Professorship for Global Security & Technology with a focus on the area of collective/individual violence;
  • Independently organizing and teaching Bachelor- and Master-level courses in the area of collective/individual violence (5 semester hours);
  • Supervision of Master/Bachelor theses;
  • Conducting quantitative analyses with primary and secondary data;
  • Preparing and co-authoring scientific publications.

Your qualifications:

  • Ph.D. (or near to completion) in political science, economics, sociology, or a related social science discipline;
  • Excellent knowledge of quantitative research methods;
  • Aptitude for teaching;
  • Experience in coordinating research projects and in team work;
  • Intercultural competence (e.g. experience in developing countries);
  • Strong communication skills and enthusiasm;
  • Excellent English language skills.

Our offer:

  • We offer a 100% position (40.10 hours per week) suitable for PostDocs or PhD students in a late phase of their dissertation project;
  • The position will begin at 01.04.2025 and will be limited until 31.07.2026;
  • Payment will be based on the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service of the Länder (TV-L E13);
  • The position includes a teaching commitment of 5 semester hours for which flexible arrangements may be made;
  • We also offer home office work arrangements.
