Ana Paula Fraga is the Recipient of the 2023 Francesco Kjellberg Award

IPSA is pleased to announce that Ana Paula Fraga has been named the recipient of the IPSA Francesco Kjellberg Award for Outstanding Papers Presented by New Scholars. Ana Paula Fraga's paper, Out of the Curve: Comparing Right-Wing Extremism in Latin America and Europe (1999 - 2017), presented at the 2023 IPSA World Congress in Buenos Aires, examines the potential common roots of right-wing radicalism in both regions.

The Francesco Kjellberg Award aims to encourage emerging scholars to present papers at the IPSA World Congress of Political Science. The selection was made through nominations by convenors and chairs at the 2023 IPSA World Congress. The recipient receives a US$1,000 prize to help defray their travel expenses in connection with the 28th IPSA World Congress of Political Science (Seoul, South Korea, 12-16 July 2025), along with a complimentary two-year IPSA membership.

Ana Paula Fraga's biography

Ana Paula Fraga is a third-year Ph.D. candidate at the Écoles des hautes études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, jointly supervised by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and the University of Paris 8. Additionally, she works as a teaching assistant at Sciences Po Reims. Her research explores the process of state-building and centralization in Brazil. Drawing on a socio-historical analysis of Brazilian elites, Ana Paula's current work highlights the pivotal role played by local actors, particularly governors, in shaping a new political order.

Affiliated with the Mondes Américains Laboratory at EHESS, Ana Paula's research is funded by the Labex Tepsis. She earned a Master of Political Studies from EHESS, backed by the French Excellence Eiffel scholarship, and a Master of Political Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil).
