Statement by IPSA on the Violent Attacks of October 7th
Publication date: Mon, 16 Oct 2023
The International Political Science Association (IPSA) is deeply concerned by the recent violent attacks against the civilian population of Israel. IPSA unequivocally condemns the devastating violence that targets innocent lives and stands in direct contradiction to the values of democracy, peace, and human dignity that IPSA upholds.
These recent events underscore the urgency of finding a path to dialogue and understanding that could foster a lasting solution to this enduring conflict, avoiding useless violence and more pain for the involved populations. IPSA unwaveringly supports efforts that advance democratic principles and diplomatic conflict resolution and rejects any actions that endanger human life and the peaceful coexistence of nations.
As an organization whose mission supports the development of political science around the world, we stand in solidarity with political science communities in all nations. We will collaborate with partner organizations to assist colleagues affected by the situation. Violence is never a solution to political problems and these violent attacks and their consequences for the Israeli and Palestinian populations will not improve their lives but create suffering and pain. We call for a peaceful solution to the conflict, based on mutual respect and the implementation of human values and democratic principles.
