The Italian Political Science Association is a non-profit cultural association that aims to promote the development of political science in Italy, the exchange and collaboration of scholars of the discipline in Italy and abroad as well as the coordination of institutional structures for teaching and research.
In the spring of 1973, the Italian Section of Political Science was established within the Italian Association of Political and Social Sciences. Giovanni Sartori was its President from 1973 to 1975. Norberto Bobbio followed from 1976 to 1978 and Alberto Spreafico from 1979 to 1981. In 1981, the Section was formed into the Italian Political Science Association.
Since October 1, 2021, the President of SISP is Luca Verzichelli. The Secretary is Francesco Olmastroni. The ordinary members of SISP are about 350.
