A Desconfiança Politica e os seus Impactos na Qualidade da Democracia

This is the second volume of a series of two books which present the results of the research project "Distrust of Democratic Institutions By the Brazilian Citizens". The project developed at the University of São Paulo was coordinated by José Álvaro Moisés and Rachel Meneguello. The volume recently published in Portuguese discuss the paradox of a widespread addherence of the Brazilian citizes to the democratic regime as an ideal and their strongly critical evaluation to the functioning of the democratic institutions, particularly, political parties and the National Congress. Moisés and contributing authors also discuss the effects of political distrust in the justice, police and the public services for the quality of the Brazilian democracy. Three main chapters of the book also discuss the evaluation of Brazilian citizens of political corruption and how it is related to the ambivalence of part of the public opinion about the existing democratic regime. Corruption and critical functioning of democratic institutions are the main factors which explain political distrust in Brazil.
