This contribution delves into how in a changing world order, where the struggle for power between the East (China and Russia) and the West (United States and the European Union) is at a decisive phase, Central Asia will be an important theatre of competition. The author points out that while the Sino-Russian tandem has managed to retain its superiority in the region thus far, this could change depending on how the other great powers – Turkey, Iran, India, and the GCC countries – play their cards in the ‘modern great game’ in Central Asia.
