Organized by: International Studies Association

The International Studies Association (ISA) and the Mexican Association of International Studies (AMEI) are pleased to announce a joint conference to be held in the beautiful beaches of Huatulco, Mexico, from June 4 to June 6, 2025. The conference theme is Positioning Latin America and Mexico in  International Relations, and we invite proposals that address this theme from a variety of methodological and theoretical perspectives. We do not, however, limit proposals to those that address the theme or focus on only the Latin American region.

Distinctive features of the Conference
This conference aims to highlight the unique contributions and challenges faced by Latin America and Mexico in International Relations (IR), both as an academic discipline and as a dynamic field of practice. Unlike many IR programs around the globe, which are primarily focused on political science, IR in Mexico, and some parts of Latin America, has developed as an autonomous social science discipline. Latin American scholars have made significant contributions to IR offering diverse perspectives that have not always received sufficient recognition. On the practical side, Latin American scholars have played a pivotal role in shaping international relations, particularly through their commitment to International Law, Disarmament, Diplomacy, and other fields. Yet, these efforts have often been under-recognized. This conference aims to reflect on Latin America's role and challenges in both the practice and the academic discipline of IR.

Deadline for proposals: Friday, 1 November 2024
