The Swiss Political Science Association Annual Congress 2021: Climate Change Politics in Times of Crisis
Thu, 04 Feb 2021 - Fri, 05 Feb 2021
Bern, Switzerland
Organized by: The Swiss Political Science Association
The coronavirus pandemic changed global and local politics, replacing concerns about the consequences of global warming as priority of political action. Before the pandemic, the Swiss elections in late 2019 led to an unprecedented victory of green parties, which more than doubled their seats in the national parliament. What will remain (or come out) of this green wave after the coronavirus crisis has come to dominate politics, the economy, and society as a whole? How is policy making shaped by facts and science in addressing the coronavirus pandemic compared to the climate crisis? What is the role of Switzerland in international negotiations on climate change in this new context, and how are international obligations implemented domestically? These and other questions will be addressed and discussed by decision makers and scientific experts.
