Job Description

We are seeking applicants who will build on Melbourne’s existing strengths in public policy at an exciting time in the program’s development and expansion. We welcome applicants researching and teaching in all areas of public policy, public administration, public management, public governance, policy studies and related fields. Applicants with research interests and capacity to teach in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply: comparative public policy; comparative public administration/public management; policy elites and interest groups; digitalisation/digital policy; and, policy studies in Australia, Asia and the Pacific. The posts are equivalent to the rank of a tenure-track Assistant Professor in North America.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials and seminars into the Master of Public Policy and Management as well as elsewhere in the Political Science Discipline;
  • Coordinate and deliver subjects;
  • Focus on curriculum design and innovation, including cross-disciplinary approaches.

About You

You are an experienced academic, with a capacity to attract research grants and an excellence in teaching allowing you to deliver quality content to high enrollment postgraduate subjects and across a broad range of public Policy subjects, including core/compulsory subjects in the MPPM. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills allow you to work in a collegial and collaborative work environment and aid you to supervise honours and graduate degree theses, and to participate in supervisory panels at the graduate research level. You have a capacity for administrative work that is associated with academic life, and an ability to create strong community engagement, building local and international networks and partnerships.

You will further have:

  • A completed PhD in public policy, public administration, public management, public governance, or a closely related discipline;
  • Demonstrated specialisation in research which complements the existing public policy and governance profile of the University of Melbourne;
  • An outstanding record in research with a developing publication profile in relevant high-quality journals and publishing houses commensurate with stage of career.
