The successful candidate should have experience of completing independent research for publication. Key tasks include:
- Reviewing existing literatures to understand the role of politicians in climate policy-making;
- Engaging with key actors (including politicians, policymakers, other societal stakeholders) during the research, through interviews and workshops;
- Collating and qualitatively coding biographical background information on politicians and other key actors as well as the behavioural patterns recorded in parliamentary proceedings, committee hearings, speeches etc;
- Generating novel research findings that advance the existing literatures on these topics and disseminating them via publications and seminar/conference presentations;
- Fostering and supporting the work in the Centre, by contributing to cross-cutting and synthesis activities.
A PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant social science discipline, as well as experience of independent research is required. You should be able to work in a team and independently, and have excellent report writing and presentation skills. You will meet all the essential criteria set out in the Person Specification.
This post is funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) as part of a major investment in the Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST). The post is also closely linked to the ERC-funded DeepDCarb project (www.deepdcarb.org). Prof Andy Jordan is the principal investigator of DeepDCarb. CAST is led by Prof. Lorraine Whitmarsh at Bath University; the Universities of Cardiff, East Anglia and Manchester, the University of York and Climate Outreach are its other founding partners. You will also collaborate closely with fellow CAST team members located at the Universities of Manchester (led by Dr. Sarah Mander) and Cardiff (led by Dr. Stuart Capstick).
The post is available on a full-time basis starting 1 April 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed-term period of 21 months (but not beyond 30 April 2024).
