Job Description

The Department of Political and Social Sciences at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (https://www.upf.edu/web/politiques) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Public Policy (preferred start period September 2022, although certain flexibility is possible).

We seek applications from candidates with a disciplinary background in political science and an active research agenda and teaching profile that centers diverse and interdisciplinary approaches to public policy issues and analysis. We are particularly interested in candidates with a focus on comparative and theoretical approaches to public policy analysis. Candidates should have a PhD in political science or related disciplines, and demonstrated evidence for research experience in the area of public policy and must have strong background in applied research methods, including a record of publishing in disciplinary-relevant top journals in political science and Public Policy, and provide evidence of quality teaching capacity. With the aim of building a diverse academic community, applications from women and ethno-racial minorities are especially encouraged.

Chosen candidate will be expected to actively and creatively be engaged in the following 4 areas: Academic research, teaching, service, and knowledge transfer. Note: undergraduate courses are typically (but not always) taught in Catalan and/or Spanish, and graduate level ones in English (support for language studies is offered, as there is a two-year period for new faculty to attain needed linguistic levels). The gross initial salary is 38.339€ per year.

The standard duration of the proposed contract is 5 years; at the beginning of the 5th year the tenure-track lecturer will undergo performance evaluation in all areas, including their commitment to the Department’s goals and needs stated above (i.e., research, teaching, service, knowledge transfer). For those candidates with an advanced CV, a fast-track for tenure can be considered. If performance evaluation is successful, the University will issue a call for a permanent, tenured position. Tenure-track faculty are eligible for relocation expenses reimbursement and some discretionary start-up funds.
