IPSA at the 12th Latin American Congress of Political Science in Lisbon

IPSA was present at the 12th Latin American Congress of Political Science, organized by the Latin American Association of Political Science (ALACIP) and the Centro de Estudos Internacionais of the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa. The congress was held from 17-20 July 2024 in Lisbon, under the theme Latin America as an Actor in the Global Geopolitical Configuration. IPSA organized two roundtables featuring IPSA President Pablo Oñate and several Executive Committee members.

Table of Representatives of National Associations: The State of Political Science in Latin America
This roundtable brought together IPSA President Pablo Oñate and presidents and representatives of national political science associations across Latin America to discuss the current state and future directions of the discipline in the region. Moderated by Gabriela Ippolito-O'Donnell (Universidad Nacional de San Martín), the session aimed at fostering greater collaboration and sharing best practices to strengthen political science in Latin America.

IPSA Roundtable on Populism in Latin America and Europe: Different Characteristics of the Same Phenomenon? Consequences for Democracy
The second IPSA roundtable examined the phenomenon of populism, with a focus on its impact in Latin America and Europe. The discussion covered the diverse characteristics of populist movements in both regions, as well as their roots, rhetoric, and political strategies.
