Take Part in Redefining Political Science by Completing the ECPR-IPSA Survey 22/23
Publication date: Mon, 28 Nov 2022
IPSA and the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) are seeking to develop a profile of the political science profession worldwide. As part of this initiative, we are inviting our members to participate in the second World of Political Science (WPS) survey of the profession. We would like to learn about your views and experience and would greatly appreciate it if you could please complete the survey.
Data is collected by the ECPR and will be treated in the strictest confidence, under the terms of the UK Data Protection Act and in accordance with the ECPR’s Privacy Policy. It will be used solely for the purposes of the ECPR and IPSA. All responses are anonymous and no identifiable personal data is collected. The full dataset, with no personally attributable answers, will be released in mid-2023.
Queries should be sent to Rebecca Gethen: rgethen@ecpr.eu.
Please complete the survey using the following link by 31 January 2023.

About the Survey
The first World of Political Science survey was designed by Pippa Norris and shared across both the ECPR and IPSA communities in the spring of 2019. It gathered nearly 2,500 responses from 102 countries across eight global regions and provided a fascinating insight into the social background, professional training, technical skills and formal qualifications, role perceptions, methodological approaches, sub-fields of research, and perceptions of changes to academic life.
The results informed Prof. Norris' chapter – The World of Political Science: Internationalization and its Consequences – in ECPR’s 50th anniversary book. Building on this project also is an analysis of perceptions and attitudes towards the ‘cancel culture’ in Political Studies Cancel Culture: Myth or Reality. Prof. Norris has also generously made the baseline WPS-2019 dataset, questionnaire, and codebook available to all for secondary analysis.
