Description/About

Founded in 1998, the Portuguese Political Science Association (APCP) is committed to promoting the autonomy, consolidation, and development of Political Science in Portugal. Over the years, the Association has pursued this mission through a range of initiatives, including:

(a) the organisation of academic and scientific events, most notably its biennial congress, the next edition of which—the XII APCP Congress—is scheduled for March 2025;
(b) the establishment of specialised sections, supporting their ongoing activities;
(c) the awarding of prizes for scientific merit;
(d) the dissemination of relevant information pertaining to teaching and research in the field;
(e) participation in international political science associations;
(f) the development of bilateral partnerships with political science associations in other countries.

Taken together, these activities have significantly contributed to strengthening Political Science in Portugal, across the domains of education, research, societal engagement, and the professional recognition of academic qualifications in the field. Furthermore, they have fostered dialogue and collaboration among scholars from various national and international institutions, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and the development of innovative and impactful projects. These initiatives also play a crucial role in the internationalisation of the discipline, enhancing the national and international visibility and recognition of both the scientific output and teaching of Political Science in Portugal.
