West Visayas State University is a public research university in Iloilo City, Philippines. It was established in 1924 as Iloilo Normal School under the tutelage of the Thomasites, but dates back its foundation in 1902 as a part of Philippine normal school system.
The Social Science Department, also an institutional member of the Philippine Political Science Association, offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in General Social Sciences (M.A. and Ph.D); and Politics and Governance (BA in Political Science and Master of Public Administration). The Department research outputs are within the broader fields of East and Southeast Asian Politics and Strategic Relations, Public Governance, Human Rights, Philippine Politics and Governance, and Social Development.
The Department's academic offerings are accredited by the Accrediting Agency for Chartered Universities and Colleges in the Philippines (AACCUP, Inc.).
