Recent years have witnessed several waves of creative experiments in democratic innovations worldwide. They include, but are not limited to, various forms of deliberative mini-publics, citizens assemblies being the most prominent. Presentations in this panel introduce and analyze some of the ongoing cases and points of contention related to these attempts, both theoretical and empirical. They include theoretical reflections on how to harness instances of democratic innovations to reinvigorate democratic politics and empirical analysis and exploration on the ways to institutionalize them in a cooperative relationship with formal political institutions and the public sphere.
