Description

The climate crisis poses an existential threat to Island States whose geography and position within the global power hierarchy make them susceptible to being inundated and even “sinking” below the surface of the ocean. Many atoll islands in the Pacific for instance will become inhabitable within the next 50 years and the question is, where do the inhabitants go and what happens to their cultural heritage as well as state sovereignty? This panel also explores how communities from Islands States position themselves, what are their perceptions of the threat and their own views on the notion of habitability.
