Geopolitics of Heritage: Space, Politics, Patrimony

In the last decades, thee political meaning, significance and management of heritage han been widely addressed and discussed. Tangible and intangible, digital and oral, material and symbolic, political communities engage in constant representations and uses of the past in diverse contexts and situations.
The aim of this panel is to open a dialogue around the geopolitical readings of heritage. Not only about the relationship between heritage and (geo) politics, but specifically around heritage-making as space of negotiation and/or site of contested site of representation. Geopolitics may give us a perspective for analyzing how values adscribed to heritage demarcate territories on a global to a local scale, and on the multiple spaces of production of heritage. Papers on questions such as the international sanctioning of heritage, policies of restitution and repatriation, or the re-signification of museums under decolonization paradigms will be welcome.
