We propose a roundtable to honor the life and legacy of Professor Takashi Inoguchi, a towering figure in international relations and political science scholarship in Japan, who passed away in November 2024 at the age of 80. Over a distinguished academic career spanning nearly six decades, Professor Inoguchi made monumental contributions to the development and expansion of international relations scholarship in Japan and played a pivotal role in connecting Japanese academia with the global scholarly community.
Authoring and editing more than 100 books and several hundred articles, Professor Inoguchi was renowned not only for his prolific scholarship, but also for his remarkable ability to bridge intellectual divides and foster meaningful connections among scholars worldwide. His intellect, energy, and compassion have profoundly shaped the academic trajectories of countless colleagues, collaborators, and students.
This roundtable will bring together Professor Inoguchi's collaborators, colleagues, and former students to reflect on his enduring impact as both a scholar and mentor. Participants will discuss how his scholarship has inspired and influenced innovative research in international relations, foreign policy, public opinion, and comparative politics. This session aims to celebrate his academic contributions and personal mentorship, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire future generations of scholars.
