Over the past decade, the imaginary of the multiverse, pluriverse, and alternative universe have proliferated in literature, art, and academic writings.
This panel invites papers that explore notions of the multiverse in relation to migrants and migration.
How might the notion of multiple, interconnected, yet separate worlds contribute to the study of migration and migrants? What can the imaginary of a multiverse contribute to our understanding of migrants' practices and experiences? Can the notion of migrant multiverse act as a corrective to the prevailing imaginary of "migrants in limbo" and the "end of migration as we know it"? What are the stories and experiences that challenge the meta-narrative migration vocabulary and inspire alternative ways of seeing and thinking about the world? Can the imaginary of the multiverse allow us to rethink notions of migrants' invisibility?
