Description

Despite facing numerous challenges, women activists in the Global South have demonstrated unwavering commitment to social change. Their efforts have led to significant progress in areas such as gender equality, human rights, and environmental justice. Documenting and analysing their work to mobilise, articulate and advocate for issues, from local to national, and amplifying their voices are academic and political imperatives. This panel welcomes papers on such topics as: how historical colonial experiences shaped women's activism; women activists’ impact on policy-making, reforms and legislation; the role of community-based organizations and social movements; forms of women’s resistance, including nonviolent protests, civil disobedience and cultural subversion. We welcome analytical papers as well as case studies.
